Proper pet care involves following lots of rules and guidelines. These are for both your, and your pet's, protection, and they are not something to be taken lightly. Pets provide us with comfort and love, and studies have shown that they can also help people cope with illnesses and stress. Our pets are very important parts of our lives, so it only makes sense that we, as pet owners, would want to make sure that we provide our companions with the best possible care. Pets are like children in many households. They act like infants because they are dependent on owners to care for them. In households where there are no children they are the children.
* The following tips are applicable to just about any pet. I have accumulated this information from my own experiences as an animal communicator, with my own pets (which include dogs, fish, birds, turtles and rabbits) as well as from veterinarians and animal rescue organizations. None of this information is intended to be used as a substitute for professional veterinary care.
* Teach children the proper way to approach an unfamiliar animal. This includes asking the animal's human companion for permission to pet the animal. Some animals are not used to children and can react in an adverse manner if approached too quickly.
* Try not to ask your dog to do anything that he can evade. If your dog gets frustrated by you being strict and commanding, then your dog will see this as a negative thing, so you must try to respect your dogs behaviour and act correctly at the early stages of pet training.
* Make sure to penalize your dog. This means that you should issue your dog a penalty which might be anything that your dog does not enjoy, such as ignoring him or maybe a leash jerk when he is not walking like he should on his leash remember, this is not a punishment it is a simple prod in the right direction.
Proper pet care also involves keeping track of your pet's medical history. If you consistently take your pet to the same veterinarian, then that person should have all of your animal's information on hand. This way, both of you can periodically review the contents to help keep track of your pet's general health and well being. As you follow the guidelines for proper pet care, make sure that your pet has regular vaccinations and check ups in order to provide him with the best chance at a long life and good health.
